Transmission fluid

Hi guys

Feel stupid for asking but what is the correct way to check transmission fluid level?
Do I put the words on the end of the stick right side up, if so I need to add fluid BUT if I flip it upside down I don't need fluid

About to go on my first tow away from home trip and want to be sure

You can put the dipstick in either way. Look at both sides. The lowest spot on either side that is dry is the actual level.

So on my stick the words on the yellow end right side up puts the crosshatch on what would be the lowest fluid mark flip it the other way and it would show full if a guy just looked at the marks

Thanks again

It doesn't matter. Either of those will give the same reading.
