Ford Tranny Fluid

Hi!

When removing the driveshaft off of my truck, when I pull it out of the transmission fluid spills out..
I assume that is transmission fluid.

Question - When I check the transmission fluid, it is impossible to tell where its at on the dip stick... It seems to always be way above full but this must just be fluid sticking to the sides of the shaft where the dipstick goes.

ANy tricks to checking this?

Is it hot, engine running, and in park when you check it? It should be.

Yep it is.. It's just really hard / impossible to tell where the fluid level is on the dipstick.
