How To Check Transmission Fluid

I have a 2002 F250 7.3L , i just changed the transmission fluid and am having a problem telling the level of the fluid on the white dipstick end. you cannot tell if it is in the fluid or just picking up fluid from the refill tube. I know this sounds stupid but i don't want to be driving around with low fluid. Any ideas how to tell where the level is properly?
thanks

If you wait long enough for the tube to drain down you will get a correct reading on one side of the stick. The other side always seem to read more. I just did mine yesterday.

the problem is that there does not seem to be enough fluid remaining on the dipstick to get a comfortable reading. not obvious like engine oil due to clear nature of the fluid (red but very little on the stick.

Try wiping the stick with a piece of chalk. Mine is easily visible on one side only.
