Mess?? I'll bet you an Anderson doesn't ride as nice as an air bag hitch. I had an old style hitch, once I got the Hensley air bag unit I was totally sold on this type of hitch....never go back.
Yea they cost more but when you spend $40, 50, 60 on up for a nice 5th wheel you better not skimp on the hitch and how it will make your traveling nice or uncomfortable. To each his own.....
How can you say if you haven't experienced it?
" I had an old style hitch, once I got the "Anderson" unit I was totally sold on this type of hitch....never go back. " I too, can say this. And I can also say I didn't spend as much and I can lift the Anderson in and out of the truck at 77 years old!
I love my Andersen Ultimate and, at 71, have no problem getting it in or out in just a few minutes. Since you're getting the goose ball, just get the Andersen ball mount hitch that will clamp right to the ball and weigh 32 lbs.
Here's my question about the Andersen. Has anyone actually weighed it? I know they claimed weight is just over 30 pounds I believe. The Pull Rite competitor is listed at just over 50 pounds.
Chucking is really not a significant issue for us, but I hate lifting the Reese in and out of the bed and might pony up the bucks to make the switch of something a whole lot lighter. So what does this pony actually weigh?

I have the steel rail mount that weighs 42 lbs, but the aluminum Ball mount is 30-32 lbs. Go to the Andersen Ultimate web site. They list weights there and have demo videos as well. I would never return to a traditional hitch after using this.
I know folks like the hitch. I have seen their site and don't challenge what owners are saying at all. If I am going to spend the cash, I just don't want to find the weight is more than they list on their website. In the background is the competitor from Pull Rite which looks very similar. I can buy that one through my distributor paying wholesale so a pretty substantial saving, but I want the lightest thing I can find.

Do you want lowest cost or lowest weight, Steve?
If lowest weight, I will go out and remove mine and weigh it. I have the steel one, so it will be heavier than the alum one.

I couldn't agree more. I just ordered a TrailerSaver TS3 for my 2017 F450. This will be my second air hitch, the first went with my old truck , which I just sold.
When you look in the rear view mirror and see your 5th wheel gliding up and down on the hitch and you dont feel a thing ------- you know its good for your truck and good for your 5'ver.
The shock load from a non air-hitch transfers to your truck and trailer. And over time it will have an effect.
Yes, the air hitches are pricey -- but it is money well spent -- and for me -- piece of mind.
Why does every thread about hitches turn into a religious war? Everyone has their own preference, so do we need to try to convince each other that our own is "best"?
I just bought the Andersen rail version 3 days ago. It should be here early next week. I can weigh it with the adjustable ball and give you a weight in a couple of days...
Total price came in at $504 for the triangle hitch, ball and coupler.
I am curios too. Took a leap of faith here with the Andersen because I was dead set on the B&W, so I hope the Andersen is as good as everyone says it is. Got it through Amazon, so if there is any problem or dissatisfaction with it, the return process will be fairly simple.
