2011 250 CC FX4 LARIAT 6.7l Just had the oil changed on Friday and I noticed a couple oily spots in the driveway. Crawled under to investigate and there is a slow drip coming off the plastic oil plug. Called the service center and they said the seals on those plugs fail pretty regular. Anyone have any issues with this or what was done to eliminate this issue?
Well, I change oil on 6.7L quite often and have yet to run into leaks myself. Get a new plug and make sure no one is over tightening it. The plugs can crack easy and then they will leak.
Ford did replace the composite pans with steel pans for this very problem. The steel pan has the regular style screw in drain plug. You might contact a Ford CSM and ask them for help on replacing the pan on your truck. If you decide to do it yourself, the cost would be approx $150 for pan and new bolts.
Thanks for the input guys. r2millers, I liked the Fumoto valve idea, but I checked their website and they don't have a valve listed for this application. Thanks anyway though.
JS, do you know what the problem is with the 1/4 turn plug? Is it the O ring or does the plug itself breakdown?
The plug being of some type of plastic or composite, I suspect there is some wear of the lock cams on the pug and pan and also the o-ring might be flattening over time.
I think next oil change, I would bite the bullet and change the pan over to steel pan. I would contact a Ford CSM and see if they will assist you in the cost.
