Err...Windows XP -does- have Explorer. It's the main running program. If you Ctrl-Alt-Del, then select the "Processes" tab and click the column header "Image Name", you will see "explorer*****" is always running and constantly hogging up around 20MB of memory (at least on my XP home machine).

And no, there isn't a way to just search for hidden files without some external program or shell extension. Sorry I can't be of more help.

XP has it's merits, I'm sure...they have yet to be revealed to me, however.

Stabiltiy is it's only merit. Security is unfortunately lacking in all MS products.

We have avoided going to XP where I work and instead having everything running Windows 2000. It's a lot more stable than XP.

I run about 27 computers, not here but friends and family that have them all bring them to me, had 5 cases of virus last week, all on the xp ones, 1 virus on 98, my sister she tends to open everything without thinking. the rest were fine. I like xp because it is alot more stable for me, I had to upgrade my video card when i installed it, it didnt like my voodoo card at all. but so far it is good. by the way anyone need a voodoo card ? 128 megs voodoo 5 5500 will trade
