FINALLY got 1 yesterday!! Pristine new 2015 take off unit.
I run a topper on my truck and have no need for the step and I an a professional truck driver and drive with my mirrors, so no need for the camera either so I just got a plain gate.
I can't wait to install it! I had already bought the new hinge for 2008 up...
I understand that I can swap the lock from my original tailgate so my key will still work??
Are ALL these newer gates assisted? Boy, THAT would be nice!
Any tips on the swap?
I also just ordered a set of the vinyl letters that go into the indented letters-I ordered GOLD REFLECTIVE ones because my truck has gold tone graphics on the sides and wanted to pull it all together.....
Also, I have a factory Ford drop in bed liner and wonder if I can just transfer the one from my original gate?
The original hanger on the drivers side is a complete circle and the pass side is a notched to allow tailgate removal.
The torsion bar version has a key in the middle that matches the tailgate hanger on the drivers side. This allows the bar to twist internally storing energy from half open to fully open making the closing force much less
I see a lot of them running around for sure. I haven't as yet done it though. Saving my money for the new bed I am going to have to buy. Short beds are EXPENSIVE and hard to find. Take pics and post them up when you get it all sorted out. I want to see that gold inlay.

I too am in the market for a short bed. Mine is damaged in a couple areas and would just rather replace with a newer, good condition one.
People want an arm and a leg for those things for some reason!

I should have pulled the trigger on a new bed straight from Ford this spring. $1400. Some online guys were saying "buy now, they're going up $1000"...when they wanted $2300.
Well, Ford did raise the price $1000, and the aftermarket did too. New takeoffs are $3300 now.
