I'm checking into adding a tailgate assist. My Tundra had one and I liked it. Many times I need to operate the gate one-handed (like with a sack of deer corn on my shoulder) and now that this truck has the built-in tailgate step it is even heavier. I see plenty that lower the gate slowly, but I want one to help lift it. There aren't too many to choose from. I saw a Hopkins torsion bar type with good reviews. Anybody have one of any kind on their truck?

I used the Torsion Bar on a past truck......Worked Great !!
I have used the torsion bar design on my 2006 Superduty, but have yet to find a tailgate assist that lifts/lightens the weight of raising the tailgate for the newer tailgate as used on the 2013 truck.
I don't know if the older design torsion bar will work or not, but they are not listed as doing so on the application charts.
I only used the shock to help you on the way down... Did nothing for the "up" part. Almost like it needs a garage door torsion bar and spring on it...
I was hoping to find something like this for my 2015... As there is no way any of my kids could put the tailgate up. (not to mention the wife doesn't like lifting it up either)

Dak.......You could mount a winch in the bed of the truck that has a remote.....and winch up the tailgate..........
I think I'll order the Hopkins 74211 and give it a go. For $20 it won't be a big gamble. I'm wondering if it is visible through the gap between the bumper and tailgate? I was thinking about blacking that area with some trim paint anyway.
Tried 3 DeeZee ez downs....
great concept - worked fine for two or three drops, but then the 'nutzert' loosened and twisted off each time...
I gave up and have a new one they sent sitting right over there catching dust... won't try it again...

Don't take this the wrong way, but it must be you. I had some issues with my install on this last truck, and the issue was me.
Unless they want a fortune I may let one of the local truck accessory places do it. That way they will warranty it. I broke that ez nut as well once, but they replaced it for free. I didn't have any issues after that.
