Front End go BOOM

Was leaving the dump today and had used 4x4 to dump some stuff in a rough spot. Neglected to take it out of 4wd when I hit the highway, after about 4 mles @ 50mph that bitch locked down tighter than a gnats a**. Left about 40' of skid marks with my trailer somewhat in the road.

On the belly the front driveline was snapped at the u joint on the front yoke and the truck would not move. I unlocked the hubs and got her to the side of the road removed the rest of the front drive line and drove on back to work.

No visual signs of an oil leak I checked the oil about a month ago so I know it's full. I haven't got her home yet. It was 100+ here today and didn't feel like getting stranded 40 miles from home.

I had a rear end shell on my 96 and it freaking exploded blew the case apart and everything. This did not any suggestions on what could have happened. I'll get her home sunday until then I'm just guessing.

If i had to guess .. the ring gear sploded . . I'm surprised the u joint didn't go first .. spicer _

sounds like you had a leak and the oil leaked out without you knowing it.

i run my D60 locked all winter long, and have driven it that way at speeds up to 75mpg.

Am I correct that all 1 ton's have the D 60 in them?

correct. all F350 4X4's had dana 60's

It could have also been a U-joint that failed, and then the shaft wedged causing it to stop.

I have had D44s pitch the pin, the D60 is a similar design so easy to see that happening. Pop the cover off, catch the chunks and be sure to post carnage pics.
