Alright y'all!
I have the makings for a triple batch of Gumbo for our dinner for Friday evening. In April we had a pretty good turn out, and we killed a double batch. So who's gonna be there, so I know if I need to bring double, or triple batch fixn's
I have all of my stuff for a batch of beans, and I'll make that tomorrow. I always let it set a day or two in the fridge before it goes in the smoker for a day.
And I'm going to start going through everything and begin loading the truck tomorrow. And high tail it as early as possible Friday morning!
Bob, I'm sure a triple batch will get eaten, and those that arrive late might even get some... this time.
Josh, Bob, *****, James, Marty, Wesley, and Matt. Dusty and Todd (FNG) and James's friend will meet us on Saturday for the Que. Todd will take over Tony's spot.
If i missed anything, let me know. If I added something to your list... well...
Also, with the cooler temps, i'll probably throw in some oak to burn for a campfire, and I can add too the wood for the smoker, though I'm sure Bob has some hickory or apple lined up for that.
Marty - Tater Salad and a CAKE
Matt - Tater and Bacon Surprise
Bob's - Beans
Josh's 7.0 lb Boston butt
James - Sausage. Brownies. Forks, knives, spoons. Napkins. Trash bags.
BYOB
other drinks: Coffee, Soda, water, etc???
Oh does anyone have some extra wide tin foil (Aluminum) to wrap the butt in? I find the standard store stuff is just not wide enough for a normal size butt.
Well I've been talking to my NCangler friends and they tell me Badin lake is a productive crappie fishery so hopefully I'll have some fresh fish to throw in the mix for eats either Friday or Saturday night. Looked up a bait shop about 30 minutes away in case the crappie aren't having artificials, have to call tomorrow to see if the carry live crappie minnows. Looking forward to this weekends events.
Josh, Since you guys will get there first I'm going to drop off the napkins, utensils, and trash bags tomorrow evening at some point. I'll bring the food with me Friday.
I hope to leave around 3 or 4 pm. 2 hrs travel time. I think I'm on site 5. Should be there in time for gumbo.
Josh, I picked up a 75 sq. ft. roll of heavy duty. It's not the extra wide though. I'll bring it just in-case. If nothing else, we'll wrap the meat 4 or 5 times...lol.
Going to be busy tomorrow getting packed and loaded. Can't wait to sit on my asset all weekend and do absolutely nothing(except eat). Well, I might have a nip or two...lol.
Well it looks like Bob, Marty and myself have our stakes claimed by the smoker again. Should be good sleeping weather for us who snore like a bear. You other fellers might want to bring earplugs. Looking forward to seeing everyone and some good cookin.
Crappie is my favorite fish to eat, as well as catch. And since we moved I haven't found a sweet spot.
Sounds like a target species has been determined. I'll have all my rods rigged accordingly this afternoon, and all the my salt tackle on the shelf and freshwater tackle in the carry bag. Topped the charge off on the battery yesterday and test fired so the boat is ready to go already.
I don't think y'all want anything I can (attempt to) cook but I would like to bring something, what else do y'all need, drinks, snacks, desserts?
Not sure anyone is bringing Slaw, if you want to grab that?

Eldorado Outpost should have live bait. You'll have to stop there to get range permit anyway.

Bob, my calculations put it at 8 for grub Friday night and ten on Saturday.

James, that'll be fine. I should be here most of the day. May run out at noon to hit the store for beer and pork.
Back home from finding out that Field and Stream in Cary has closed their doors. Then to Bass Pro to get the few things that I wanted to get. I really want to sit on my butt for a few hours, but there's way, too much to get done today.
I'm going to go ahead and get the meat cut and trimmed for Gumbo, today. That will make it a little easier on me tomorrow. I know a few of us are going to ride out together. Josh, Marty, when and were are we meeting
I believe we're stopping for hot dogs for lunch. Josh, I owe you a meal from our lunch at the car show since they didn't have enough change from all of us showing up with $20's.
Truck is mostly loaded, just coolers to fill, and get the smoker on the bed.
Beans are done, and everything pretty well prepped for Gumbo tomorrow evening.
I'm ready to go boys
