Looking for a part...used

1989 F-250 XLT package w/tilt steering.

I stripped the upper steering column down today to replace the ignition actuator. While there, I replaced the key tumbler, and the upper bearing. One part I can't find in a decent price range, is this part...Ford D1AZ-3E723-C - ACTUATOR ASY The current one wnats to stick in the key forward position, leaving the starter running. The problem I'm having is finding one in a price range I'm willing to pay...and my local scrap yard refuses to allow me to scavenge one off of a junked truck. I also need the upper and lower shrouds, in black, if possible.

Does anyone have these on hand, used, where the gear teeth aren't chewed to heck and back that they are willing to let go, cheap?

What I have is a far cry better than what was there...I was using a pair of pliers to grab the rod and push down to start.

MSRP: $99.37 - Dealer net cost: $59.62 / Internet discount price: $64.58 (see below for source).

The best price on the net (Cost + 10%): Auto Nation Ford White Bear Lake (MN).

How many people on FTE have parts catalogs? They would need at least 6 to look up all the applications...since you didn't list any.

Applications: 1971/80 FoMoCo Passenger Cars & 1978/91 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline.

'Course, without a pic, most people will be flying blind...because they don't know what it looks like.

3E723 - Here's one example of the little charmer:

I gave the application needed in my first sentence...then added a link to the part picture. I thought that would be enough

This is just one application. Considering what the puppy fits, there are dozens more.

1971/73 Mustang/Cougar / 1971/76 Torino/Montego/Ranchero / 1971/78 LTD/Marquis / 1971/79 Thunderbird/Lincoln/Continental Mark III/IV/V / 1974/79 Cougar.

1975/80 Granada/Monarch / 1977/79 LTD II (not an LTD!)/Ranchero / 1977/80 Lincoln Versailles.

1978/91 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline.

All of the above tilt wheels are operated by pushing the T/S handle forward.

Ah, I'm following you now. To be honest, I wasn't aware of the scope of applications. However, the local scrap yard refuses to allow anyone to come and strip a column...something that is a bit upsetting. It's the first time I've encountered that.

Heck, the scrap yard will only sell complete columns...for $250 and up. I was considering swapping to a solid column instead of tilt, until I realized that it was an easy fix to replace the bearings...just a bit time consuming....especially in the heat. LOL

I seem to remember paying around 21 bucks for a new replacement one a few years back. Try Amazon, Ebay or LMC.

But, even if you could, would the used actuator you got...be any better than the one you have now?

Maybe yes, or maybe no...because it could be worse. And, you'd need x-ray vision to find out beforehand.

You can buy new for 65 bucks (from the dealer in MN). There's no tax since the part is being shipped out of state, but there's probably a shipping charge.

Phil: Amazon aka Ben Dover wants $83.93. Link in post #1. Considering that the dealer net cost is $59.62 .. no one is gonna sell it for less.

And...since the part is available from Ford, where do you think LMC is buying it from? Probably from a local dealer at cost +10% or 30% off MSRP

AFter seeing the one currently on my vehicle, I have a strong feeling a used one would be better than that. I wound up taking a small file to it to clean up the teeth a bit...it's better than before, but still crappy.
