I'm dumping my 06' 6.0L. I can't keep pumping money into it and hoping its the last time.
I picked up my 2015 6.2L on Thursday and I love the truck, but it is a sleepy motor. I have a camping trip coming up in three days where I'll be towing my TT, but if daily driving is any indication then I'll probably come away with it wanting for more. I know it isn't a diesel, but I do want the most from the truck without sacrificing the reliability that made me buy it in the first place.
So... to tune it or not to tune it? I don't want to beat on it and get more out of it is designed to give. I just want to wake it up. I know that tuning it will likely void the warranty (it has 9000 miles) so I want to do it without over taxing the engine. I want a lively daily driver and a good tow. What would you do? Thoughts?
Their are people who have gotten tunes for their 6.2, I would check in to 5star tuning and tell them what you are looking for an I believe they can give you up to 3 tunes with the programmer
Most of those that have their tunes from 5star seem pretty happy with them
I came from a 6.0 and the first time I drove the 6.2 I thought it was a complete dog. I had a used one for a month or so. You just gotta understand you're not in a diesel anymore, and the gasser is a different animal. Just got to let it do its thing when towing.
There is an upside with the gasser with maintenance. The whole reason I bought my first F150 was I didn't want a 6.2 or another diesel.
Mines tuned, de-catted and one resonator removed. It is far from boring to drive in its current configuration. Gotta let it breath and gotta let it rev! I love how at 4k rpm people are expecting it to shift then all of a sudden it screams to 6k and I just grin wider and wider!!

6.0 for a 6.2.... A popular and wise move. 5star tunes are great and help a lot. I love my 5star sctX4. Their 87 daily/tow tune works best in my truck. Gears are even a better performance move. Congrats!
Have you tried turning the traction control off to see if makes a difference this has been reported to help some. Press the button and hold it down. If will turn it off most of the way. If I were you I'd get a 5 star tune and have them turn the traction control in the tune. The tune will really wake up the throttle response and make it shift better. The throttle response is dumbed way down from ford. You also have to turn it off every time you restart the truck but I saw where they can turn it all the way off in the tune.
Buy a sports car if you want to go fast, buy a SD if you want to haul. It is getting frigging ridiculous how many users are concerned about how fast they can pull a load over how long the can pull it. Time and time again it has been proven that CAI and exhaust upgrades are a figment of the users imagination. Gears? Well how often do you tow, and how heavy? The only results posted are by users who have paid to get the gear change. At $2400 and one mpg improvement, of course they are going to say it is the cats meow. At an 8 year return on investment, I would lie my fifth point of contact off too! If you want to go fast and impress your friends, buy a Subaru and start vaping. Rant over.

Count me among those happy with 5 Star. Contact them, tell them what you have & what you'd like it to do. They always got back to me promptly when I had questions. Got a 2011-2016 6.2L V8 Super Duty? - 5 Star Tuning
Contrary to what Hoss might think, I also did it for an economy tune. But the 87 octane daily tow is nice for the handful of times I do tow every year. A lower gear wasn't in the cards for me because as he says, I don't tow heavy and often. Also contrary to what he says, you'll see me at the funeral home as guest of honor before you'll see a Subaru in my driveway.
As I've posted before, my only complaint is with SCT, not 5 Star. All my devices are Mac. When the SCT needs updating I'll have to send it back or find someone with a Windows based computer.
Thanks for the feedback. I will contact 5 star and go that route. As far as towing. I know the 6.2 makes its power in the higher RPMs relative to a diesel. I'm not worried so much about the revs, but more the shift points to keep it in its power up the hills. I actually towed a light 2500lb trailer yesterday and I could tell the difference in the throttle response right away and I didn't even have it in tow/haul.
Hoss. If I want to wake up a motor and make it more responsive then I'm just looking to impress people? Jesus, even my wife thinks the stock tune is a dog. If I'm merging in traffic I'd like the option of getting some throttle response and getting over vs. having to use the brakes and hoping for a nice guy. You're due for a dose man, I think your meds are wearing off.
From my experience you will notice improved throttle response if you change the exhaust and it won't void your warranty either. Well worth it in my opinion.

CAI is useless yes unless you're making huge power, like forced induction power. Exhaust? I'm going to vehemently disagree with you that dropping the cats makes no difference. But you can tell yourself whatever you'd like. Check out the raptor forums online
As for gears? I've changed gear sets in my '95 from 3.73 to 4.10 and wow, the use ability of that truck was night and day. So you can believe what you'd like but there's a reason why for any and every year gas truck that someone comes on here asking about how to improve performance and the number one answer they get is change the gearing. I will change mine one day, but I need a deal on it to motivate me. That or a catastrophic failure.
As for driving? Well you sound like one of those slowpokes out there that raise my blood pressure because they're just toodling along. Get it moving! Lol.
