For real. The constant attention these 4.3's are getting is almost pushing me to the breaking point. I can barely stand it! Especially because I've re geared before and I know what a difference it makes. Huge.
For those happy with 3.73's that's fine, but there is plenty of oomph to be found by simply changing gears, nothing else. I imagine a day were sixth gear is actually useful on my truck. lol.
Because I was curious, I just went to Ford's website to build and price a Super Duty 6.2L just the way I would want it, including 4x4 and the electronic locking axle, and guess what? 4.30 gears are free. Doesn't cost you any more or less than 3.73.

Be careful. That's how I ended up buying my last few vehicles.. I wasn't even looking for a new vehicle. I am sooo tempted to price and build a '17..
CAFE mileage figures are set with the truck by itself not towing. Even though the bulk of the SD lineup will be used for work, the #s Ford has to meet require that through the entire product range that they build in a given year has to meet CAFE requirements. This is why so many "program" builds are highway geared instead of geared for towing heavy.
It's a government thing, it isn't supposed to make sense.
With the tuning kits can you turn it back to stock tune and not mess with the warranty?
You CAN set it back to stock. The dealer will still know it had a tune on it.
In theory, if you have a failure, they have to prove that your modification caused the problem, you do not void your entire bumper to bumper because of a tuner.
The problem is, I could see them refusing to cover anything on the motor or trans because of the tune. Regardless of whether the tune caused it or not. And it would be difficult to argue that. So I'm not going to be trying one on my truck, at least until after 50k miles.
I *really* think it would be a selling point for 5star to get "certified" by Ford. Make mild tunes, get Ford to look at them and certify that they aren't pushing anything too hard, then we all know that the tuner didn't cause any warranty issues. Ford could sell trucks that meet whatever tight numbers they're trying to hit, and we could immediately rip those stock tunes out when we got home without worrying about our warranty.
