1999 8/98 man. date. Won't start when MIL is lit.

I have read some similar posts, cranks but will not start. My issue started with a MIL code P0108. I clear the code and it pops right over and runs great. MIL will re-light within 15sec. No trouble runs fine until I turn it off. On re-start try, MIL 108 is on again and will not start until MIL codes is cleared. I have been using an Actron CP9185 for scanning and to clear MIL light. (A new GEM mod. installed at the dealership, their call due to a wiper issue.) Based on forum info have replaced MAP,CPS, ICP, and IPR. Battries are relatively new 13.9V. ( Bought an Auto Enginuity and am not to impressed. Appearently 1999 is only partially OBDII compliant. It will not find the PCM on first go for a KOEO test. Once I start it it will connect and list values. As yet I can't make it do a buzz test.----------- On a separate note I found a link that says Ford MAP sensors use a digital signal ie Hz opposed to analog. 12/89 and older engines use a Barometric sensor in the cab 12/89 and newer incorporate it in the PCM any thoughts? I wonder if this is something a parts house might have missed and the analog MAP signal fried my PCM???

OBD-II These are excluded form the Federal Requirement (8,800 lbs.) for the model years through 2003. They're not excluded from many of the requirements for EPA compliance. That's why we have what we have; to meet the FEPA.

Note: In 08 ALL motor vehicles, both domestic and import required compliance with the CAN initiative. Hence the CAN Systems. (Great System! Once you get some training on it).

The BARO is a 5 Volt Reference Circuit, @ 4.6 volts / 14.7 psig at sea level, decreasing as altitude increases. It works with these others:

The EBP: 5.0 volts Reference Circuit, 0.8-1.0 vdc / 14.7 psig

And, the MAP: Frequency output; 111Hz / 14.7 psi, 130Hz / 20psi, 167Hz / 30psi.

KOEO:

All three (BARO/MAP/EBP) should indicate atmospheric pressure (14.7psi at sea level) and read within 0.5 psi of each other. As well, the ICPv should read 0.20-0.25 volts.

Another thing to check (A/T) when the truck has sit overnight is that Oil Temp should closely match the current Ambient Temp. Inaccurate reporting to the PCM can cause erroneous data and affect the MAP.

It's not unheard of that a sensor is bad out of the box. Maybe 5 in 20 years in my case.

Use AE (not that bad once you get into it). I have an IDS and it can't do anything AE can do "on our Trucks". Not until the 6.0L does it begin to pay the bills.

1. Remove the map hose and check for holes, crack, anything that would cause a pressure difference. Ensure the clamps are adequate as well.

2. After the vehicle has sit overnight, monitor those parameters above and see how closely the data presents and report back. this will lend insight into what and where the problem may lie.

List both values and volts. One is no good to compare the other if there is a reference voltage issue.

The OBS trucks use a digital MAP sensor, Super Duty uses an analog sensor, but the MAP sensor isn't related to the BARO sensor. The code you have implicates the BARO sensor or its wiring.

Set your AE to non-OBDII compliant, that may help a little.

Early BARO sensors were external to the PCM, later units are internal. I'd look for the external BARO sensor and troubleshoot that. If it's in the PCM, you may have a PCM issue - but don't crack open the wallet until confirmed.

Humor me with this......

Does it have a TS chip with no-start in position #6? How long have you had the vehicle and has it always done this or did it start doing it one day out of the blue?

What is an MIL light? I'm not familiar with that.

It's a bit redundant to say "MIL light" when the acronym "MIL" is short for "malfunction indicator lamp".

Or a PCV valve (provided that it stands for pressure control valve and not positive crankcase ventilation).
