the magnet gods were good to me, I did get the old lifter out, it was very well worn on the bottom, which worried me... got the new lifter in and whaddya know...... S.S.D.D. rocker still not moving.... guess I will be replacing a cam shaft..
Is there a way that I can shim it up to make it work till I can get a new cam?
Just found an adjustable rocker off of ebay... and my question is....
Can I just replace the one rocker and still be able to drive my old beast for a little bit, until I can get the parts and the equipment to replace the camshaft?
I'm no authority, but it seems to me if the cam lobe itself is lunched, it won't work very well at all, or at least for very long. I'd wonder if maybe it would shed a bunch of sparklies into the rest of the engine, embedding into crank bearings or something. But no idea. Interesting question.
Unfortunatly if the lobe is gone the only fix is replacing the cam/lifters and timing chain. Also a good time to maybe upgrade to a better/more aggressive cam profile. The stock 70s cams left lots on the table. Also don't forget to use some ZDDP additive in your oil if sticking with a flat tappet style cam. Oh and break the cam in properly after. Good luck.
well, decided, since the cam needs replacing, might as well do a complete rebuild... and since i dont have all the tools and equipment, see attached photo of my shop, got a quote, and found a place that will do it for about $3500
