First time posting here. My 94 f250 won't go into third. it's a 460 truck E40D 2wd. it shifts beautifully from first to second. but seems to "freewheel" in second and never even try to go into third. by freewheel i mean that if i let off the rpms will drop as if it is in neutral. Reverse works and engaging smoothly. I have swapped the tps, shift solenoids, shift solenoid wiring plug, fluid twice, filter, park neutral switch, ecu. all of these have produced the exact same results.... PLZ HELP, I'm at my witts end with the old girl.
As you just proved that randomly (and some of your choices are really random) changing parts rarely fixes the problem.
You should start with reading the codes. That may give you an insight as to where the problem lies. If that doesn't show anything useful I'd suspect a stuck 2-3 shift valve in the valve body. The freewheeling you described is normal. That's how it is supposed to work.
