Starting issues

I have a 66 f100 with a 352. I am trying to get it to start and am having some issues. The ignition switch wiring is fried so I am jumping off the solenoid. The truck will try and start but as soon as I pull off the solenoid it dies. Any ideas?

If it's still got points, connect +12 from the battery to the +12 on the coil. Then, jump the solenoid like you've already done. If it runs, yank that jumper wire off the coil and let it die. Since it's got an in-line resistor, the direct +12 can overheat the coil pretty quick. But at least, you tested the system

At that point, you need to redo the ignition switch wiring... Good luck

Let us know how it goes.
