Been searching forever, even googling.. Can't seem to find a straight forward answer...
Can you use the wires already used on the stock cluster on an aftermarket temp guage? Will it read accordingly? Would like to see the actual temp and not the "50-5000000" range ford has em at..
Otherwise I'll just run new equipment, just wanted to know if this would shave time off the job without sacrificing accuracy..
I can't answer your question for sure one way or another, but I will say an external trans temp gauge is real easy to install if you choose to go that route..

I take it if it's not possible, I can just place a new sensor in the old sensors place?
Gimme those... pweeeeez
You cannot use the stock sender. The stock sender is connected to the PCM. The PCM uses the data to calculate a temperature. The PCM sends this information to the dash computer, and that computer determines where the needle points.
If you replace that sender the PCM is going to detect an error. The OD OFF light will flash, codes will be stored, and the trans won't operate properly.
That's what I was looking for. It's an 05 6.0 so I'll just run new equipment. Thanks Chuck
Please read the above statement from a Ford transmission expert... Mr. Kovalsky
deeper than I thought...
if you plan to Run an aftermarket gauge.. using the stock sending unit to match threads.. and purchase a "T" and run both.
but you may need several adaptors.. as the Ford sending unit and the aftermarket sending unit most likely are not the same thread or size.
So if I use the test port I just basically have to run everything and find power, right?
Any chance I can screw things up by buying a single guage and it not having the correct threaded pieces?
NO, not wiring the "T" is a threaded "T" to thread in sending unit... so 2 senders can use the same threaded hole in transmission. and stock sending unit to stock wires.
and aftermarket sending unit to aftermarket gauge.. if you still want one.
do NOT connect anything to factory stock wires for transmission.

Uhhhh, no.
The stock sender is inside the pan. It doesn't have threads, it has a plastic piece that pushes in place to hold it.
The test port is on the driver's side of the trans. It is a 1/8" NPT thread, which is what 99.9% of the sending units are.
