Hello, Im new here. Just bought a '77 F100 with a 302. I know the dash light conversation has been discussed about on this forum before, but I have more questions. My dash lights were really dim, almost non working. So I purchased some 194 LED bulbs to replace. I installed those bulbs. Problem is, now, my turn signal indicators do not work. They did before. And, only one of the LED's lights up. Did I mess something up? I tried to replace the bulbs without removing the cluster as some have suggested, but I couldn't maneuver my hand. So I had to disassemble. Any suggestions on getting the turn signal indicators to work again?
I think on a 194 the orientation does not matter. Before your reassemble, test each bulb (I used a small jumper with an alligator clip around the bulb base and touched the end of the bulb to a 12V source. Another thing - if you want brighter dash lights, remove the blue filter caps - you will be amazed at how nice it can look. Contrast the blue PRNDL light with the dash lights....
I remember when I put LED lights in my dash they wouldn't light up. This may have just been a weird deal with mine but I pulled one bulb slightly out with the light switch on (prolly not the best idea) and it turned on. I did that to each bulb and they've been working ever since.
Did you rotate the headlight **** counter clockwise (?) to make sure your dash lights are turned up to full bright. All the way bright is right before the turn on the dome light with the doors closed notch.
Counter clockwise (?) till you feel the click. X2 on remove the cluster and clean your contacts on the printed circuit board. A walk thru of removing the cluster is in here. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...then-some.html
You can connect the cluster and ck all the bulbs before you reinstall it.
LEDs are polarity sensitive and will only work one way. Incandescent 194s don't care.
Yup. I haven't got around to doing the full dash yet, but the first one I installed for the gear shift indicator would not work initially. Flipped it 180 and viola!
