429 Thunder Jet
How much is a 429 4V "Thunderjet" out of a 69 T-bird worth? I found a complete car w/motor & C-6 Auto for $2000, The car is rusty, but the motor runs well. How closely related is this motor to the 429 CJ Mustang motors or Torino motors? Is this motor a dog of a 429? How much horsepower vs. 460?

The Thunder jet was the "base" 429 engine. I have found several around in local salvage yards for $350 - $450 depending on condition of the engine. Here are some HP numbers i found in one of my books:
1969-1971
320 HP-429-2v
345 HP-429-4v
360 HP-429 CJ
375 HP-429 SCJ
1972
208 HP 429-4v
1973
202 HP 429-4v
The difference in the Thunder-Jet & the cobra-Jet is the heads and camshaft. The CJ heads have much larger ports and valves and the CJ has a more aggressive camshaft. The blocks are the same except for a few 4 bolt main blocks found on the CJ's & SCJ's.

just to let you know Railman the 429 does not have 345 horses. the basic passenger 429 and 460 4bbl. motors had the same horse power ratings at 360 **** power. the 2bbl. 4229 motors if you can find them had 320 horse power. C.J.
