Upgraded trans cooler?

My brother has an '04 with a 5.4 and wants to upgrade the external transmission cooler.

Anyone have experiences they are willing to share?

Bonus appreciation points for part numbers and pictures.

Thanks in advance!!

Any particular reason he wants to upgrade? Is it getting too warm?

You can overcool a transmission. If it never gets up to temp moisture can accumulate in the fluid and cause a failure.

Great feedback!

He pulls camping equipment on a trailer. The slow air movement and constant use of a non-locked torque converter at trail speed are the reason for additional cooling.

Have you considered a small electric fan?

A fan would help but a better/larger cooler is more reliable. Thanks!

Just curious, what kind of temps is he seeing? My '07 stayed under 200* the handful of times I pulled something heavy, but it wasn't stop-and-go in hot weather either.

There is a gent, former Ford tranny engineer who goes by Mark kovalski (?), who IMHO, will probably concur the oem cooler is more than adequate...hopefully he will chime in and give recommendations
