Question 98 Expy Transmission Cooler install?

So for my second topic of the night.....

I have a 98 4.6 4wd and I just purchased a travel trailer (5k lbs) and will be towing it periodically throughout the summer. Has anyone added a transmission cooler to these? I think it is certainly a good idea, but I'm wondering if there's a a better product than another. Costs? Ease of installation?

Think its just better to let the local tranny shop take care of it?

Both the 4r70 and 4r100 come with trans coolers (at least I hope the police cars have them.) So if you don't have one, I'd pick up the adapters or look for pipe plugs on the transmission. Once you have a way to connect to the trans, the rest is pretty easy. Pick up some reuseable or barbed style racing hose and the fittings you will need, a cooler and some various hardware.

Yes a trans. cooler is a definite must for your trailer. Lots of options out there for coolers, (tube & fin, stack plates, with fans, etc.). My personal preference is to have a electric fan on the cooler. Most heat is built up during shifts and backing in at the campground. I put a fan on my cooler (99 expy w/ trailer tow pkg) and also installed a trans temp guage to keep an eye on things.y cooler was factory installed in the return line from the rad. to the trans. I changed the fluid to synthetic to handle any heat build up. Been towing a 26' trailer with no problems for years.Good luck!

After some consulting of my Haynes manual, I found that this truck does have a transmission cooler. It kind of looks small though. Are the factory coolers really enough? Or is there a big brother version that may suit me better?
