Hey all, I had a major screw up, my fault and I made it woes by not checking my work... just stupid. I mated the 460 to a 6c in the truck it went fairly well and took about 2 hrs. But this morning as I started buttoning things up I start to bolt up the torque converted and i see i got the bilts in the wrong holes. The big holes... now what? Do I pull the motor mounts off and pull up the motor or is there enough room to slide the trans back? Need easier option as I've used up my alloted garage time.... poop! I'm leaning twords pulling up the motor ....
I don't think there's enough clearance to just unbolt the converter and slide it back. I think you'll need to unbolt the torque converter and the transmission, slide them back an inch or so, then re-index the converter with the correct holes.
You'll need to support both the engine and trans but its actually not too bad of a job.
I've changed flex plates using this procedure, sliding it back a bit further to get a torque wrench in there.
Got it, I pulled the 3 bolts each on the engine mounts, and the starter and bell housing bolts. Popped the engine up and jacked up the trans. Good thin I had those cut down bolt guides. Also big help from my oldest boy 14yrs, no way , no how could I have done it... I watched through the starter hole until is was almost lined up in correct holes and jiggles the motor...
