locking up
hey guys, i have an issue. I put a new torque converter in my truck the other day and got it bolted to the flex plate, now the problem is when i start to bolt up the bell housing bolts it locks everything up. once i back them off everything spins fine. ive tried jacking the front of the bellhousing and tightening the bolts and same thing. anybody got a suggestion?

Sounds like you didn't get the convertor fully seated in the trans. It should be capable of spinning in the trans with the trans bolted to the engine, behind the flexplate.
Tell me you didn't bolt the convertor to the engine, then install the trans...
Convertor MUST be installed fully into trans, before trans is put into place. Otherwise, SEVERE trans damage can occur.

You may have either not got it fully seated in the pump (2 flats on the back of the tube) or pulled it back out while lining up the convertor with the flexplate. Either way, they need to come back out at least far enough to reset the convertor into the pump, and hope nothing has been damaged.

WHat they said. Its tough to get the converter in all the way, shake it around while you turn it. When you bolt the motor and trans tight together, the converter should still move in and out 1/4" or so. Forcing it WILL cause damage.
