I apologize if this is the incorrect place to ask but I'm having some transmission issues on a 05 Ford E-450 shuttle bus. All the sensors are good, no issues with the wiring, completely rebuilt, solenoids replaced twice, valve body, just about everything we can think about, but the overdrive/5th gear won't engage. And the transmission loses pressure going from 2nd to 3rd gear and it also has harsh/stiff engagements from time to time.It doesn't want to engage past 4th gear. The transmission is a 5R110W torque shift. If anyone could give me any advice on what the problem might be I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Has it been scanned for codes? Is the tow/haul light flashing?
Your regular parts store code scanners won't be able to read these codes. This is an electronically controlled transmission, and it's extremely likely that the PCM sees something wrong.
I had a strange trans problem a while back on an 06 E450. What I found was in the large black connector near the top of the trans.A piece of the insulating foil on the harness fell into the connector across 2 pins. Just a thought.
Please describe this in more detail. How much pressure does it lose?
Ok so we just checked the pressure and at first it wasn't giving any reading at all, then it started giving pressure of almost 300 psi and well over 300 psi in reverse and drive. So much pressure that the gauge couldn't handle it, the gauge kept jerking back and forth at around 300. At first our head mechanic said it had a loss of pressure, now it's too much pressure that's the problem which is causing the harsh engagements.
