I have a 88 XLT Lariat with rebuilt 302 engine. Recently I replaced my alternator and starter. Here is the problem: I turned my vehicle off and couldn't get it to fire off. ItAny will crank but not turn over. Through some other research, I replaced the TFI module on the distributor. Problem solved. 24 hours later the same thing happend: After driving it to the store, it would crank but not fire off.
Questions:
when replacing the TFI module do you have to clean the distributor side as well?
Is there something in the distributor that can cause the TFI to keep blowing up?
Other than wires being old and bad, what else can I look to change or replace before taking it to the shop?
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I think the recommendation is to replace the PIP while you have the distributor out of the truck its the next thing to go - after the ignition module - I'd recheck to see if you're getting spark at the coil etc..then through process of elimnation replace the PIP if everything else checks out ? If the trucks running hot maybe that the problem - knocking out the TFI...
