I thought I saw a web site that showed the procedure for building a pig-tail from the original TFI module to a new one which is located at a different location (firewall, fender etc.). Has anybody successfully relocated the TFI module and can explain how to do it? I am buying a new TFI module today and would perfer to not putt it back on the DIST (avoid the heat problem associated with this part causing various types of failures).

1985 ford 302 F-150 105,000 miles. Distributor mounted TFI.

The problem is the need for an effective heat sink for the module. It's not the heat applied to the electronics by the distributor that kills it, it's the fact that an improperly installed TFI module doesn't transfer its heat to the distributor that kills it. If you do decide to move it, make a nice aluminum heatsink for it.

Apparently the later trucks came with the TFI module relocated, perhaps the wiring harness you need to do this could be found on a '90s model truck.
