Have had AE for a couple of years and thought it might be a good idea to update the software. They want 150$ for 12 month to get the latest version....is it worth it only for 12 months? Kind of harsh to pay that every year.
NO!!! Their "Giotto" software sucks (unless you need the updates for a new Ford vehicle) compared to the older stuff.
I am actually wishing there was a way I could get an older version!
There has been no changes in our trucks or how the software interacts with our trucks to necessitate an upgrade. This, again, is assuming you don't have a newer Ford vehicle.
Just so you have a second opinion - Giotto sucks big time. FORScan is my heavy hitter unless I need to attach to something other than the powertrain - like the ABS module.
Android FORScan can connect to all the modules, but has limited diagnostics capabilities. The FORScan android app "Dashboard" is very nice though. I like it way more than Torque.
I understand very well how expensive the $150 is and I know how much work I have to do to earn it, but I'll also say AE was invaluable to me previously to see all the parameters and go right to the problem instead of just swapping parts. If I put a couple of things on the truck that didn't need replacing then I already wasted $150. I know for sure I can't get anyone to look at it for me and make any kinds of repairs for that amount of money.
I wish it was a non-expiring subscription too, especially for something that hasn't changed since 2003.
is that better than on a windows tablet etc? with iOS how does it connect to vehicle?
iOS requires a wifi-enabled OBD2 adapter.
The windows version of FORScan is free, and has more features than the iOS or Android versions. It can connect with any elm327 OBD2 adapter (USB, Bluetooth, WiFi)

These trucks haven't changed enough to warrant upgrading the software. And, that's pretty much the conversation I had the AE when I upgraded to v10 or something.

Just in case twice wasn't enough. DONT DO IT!!! I could kinda figure out the old software. The new stuff I am totally lost on.
