I noticed they have released many different versions throughout the years and are up to V11 or I think 12 that requires a yearly update and some stupid dongle I sure as hell would loose. I was just curious if much has changed much over the years throughout the updates that applies specifically for our OBS trucks. I was hoping to find an older copy of it for our trucks since I can’t bite the bullet for the full cost of the newest version at the moment, I may be able to here in a few months, but 700+ is not cheap… I do a lot of work on the newer Duramaxes and a few Dodgers as well and sure would like a program that can diagnose all of them, but just can’t pop that kind of money at the moment. I have a couple of fleet trucks I’d like to get readings off since they are causing issues and being a pain in the *** and costing the company a lot of money. Most of the fleet trucks are 7.3 OBS, and I figured an older copy from early 2000’s would be sufficient since it had been developed at least 5 years after they stopped making the OBS trucks.
What do you all think? Is there another program out there like Scan Gauge or something along those lines that is cheaper? I sure wish they made a heads up display that was direct to the OBD2 port during vehicle operation that was real time data. I know a lot of these new EDGE products for the Cummins motors are pretty incredible in regards to what they monitor and can adjust.
I’m old school but am realizing the more technology packed into these trucks, software is a must…just trying to find the right software specific to the 7.3 OBS and SD trucks, and later on can purchase software or a scan tool for the Durablaster and Cummins.
Scan gauge is the direction I am going, and from all the info I got on it, it can be moved from one rig to the next, and gives a fair amount of real time data. Of course AE will give much more in depth real time data, tables and maps, but like you said, pricey and updates are a concern!

Good to know...

anyone know where i can download older versions of the ae software? i have original disc but would like to upgrade to the newest one before dongle was needed.
IIRC, newest version does NOT require a dongle. That was only certain intermediate versions a couple of years ago. I think the newest version "keys" to the ELM OBD-II connector itself.

correct. the newest version does not require the security dingleberry.
Man this just caught my eye... didn't even know I was the PO. Anyways, I got AE and just the FORD bundle. I really have not used it much, and have a lot of fiddling around to get it setup properly.... I have only been using it for diagnostics, but would like to see some real time data here soon, if I can get the parameters to show properly, and a truck running down the road.
I just got it this winter too Nick. It's not too hard to use. I haven't used it much, just done some datalogging with it. Pulled some codes off an 05 V10 too. I'm not very good with computers and I'm getting it figured out. I need/want to do like you though and spend some more time with it.
Now that would be a handy dandy tool to have, unfortunately for me, I have a 95 and it clearly states all 96 and above. So my question is, does anyone have a similiar diagnostic tool compatible for the models pre 96..ie 95...or is there an upgrade I could make to bring my truck up to speed.
As always apologies for being a pain in the a, and not as versed in this stuff as you guys. I am learning though..

If you're referring to AE, it works on both our '95s.
