Just an update. Amazon had my pump back ordered so I cancelled and did buy one at O'Reillys and it was bad, the check valve did not work.
So I returned it and got another and the second one was good.
The good news is I saved some money and the bad news is I wasted some time.

Maybe so but you prolly saved enough money to cover the time.

Well, not exactly. After pulling the pulley off old pump, putting it on new pump, seeing the new pump is defective, taking pulley off of defective pump and returning it to O'Reilly then putting pulley on new pump #2 and installing it, all for a $42 savings. I am old school and expect the parts I buy to work.

Wish it could still be that way. Back in the day when Ford sold parts to these they did. Usually made in 'Merica. But now a days the choice is aftermarket and too much stuff made in China. And badly I might add. Aftermarket stuff is a crap shoot.
Just for the record, though both pumps were in identical boxes with the same model #,
the first one which was defective had a tag that said made in Mexico and the second pump which did work, had a tag that said made in China. So, for those of you keeping score at home, its China 1, Mexico 0.
Rebuilt power steering pumps have always been a crapshoot, I think of the four or five vehicles that I replaced a pump on in the last forty years, I had to return most of them at least once. I'm resealing the leaky one myself on my '71 very soon, I'll give that a try.
