In the past few days my power steering pump has started to make a whiny sound it did not make before. I put a large screwdriver on it while the motor is running and feel a distinct vibration. Yes it has fluid. Here is my question: Amazon tells me that an AC Delco 36P1222 pump is a replacement while, Ebay says it isn't. I don't want to deal with the restocking fee so I am respectfully seeking guidance M'Lords.
(I have a 71 F250 w/ 360 motor)
Is the Delco a new pump or a rebuilt one? Go to the AC Delco website to check what it fits, or ask an autoparts store that sells Delco parts. I wouldn't trust an Amazon or Ebay listing for the correct parts unless you do your homework on what fits.

Agreed, that is why I was using this resource. The AC Delco site says that it is good for a 75 F250 with a 360 motor. Still researching.
Well 1st GR, let me say your "I am respectfully seeking guidance M'Lords" line was CHOICE! I frickin' Loved it.
And 2nd, yes, it should work. Originally Ford had some different part numbers for "new" P/s pumps depending on things like Bendix gear, Ford gear, and power pack. The internal pressure regulator was prolly a tad different. But later as all these vehicles got older and people started buying aftermarket parts, Ford came out with "remanufactured" part numbers. Prolly 90% of all Ford Thompson pencil neck P/S pumps were C7AZ3A674AX. Like the one in your pic above.
greasy Before you go out spending money on replacement pumps I'd like to suggest getting some Power Steering Stop Leak first. That stuff has worked for me and helped friends as well, might work for you too. Hard to believe how quickly is can quieten one down.

Well, I have been adding some Lucas power steering stop leak since I got the truck last year because the steering gear has a leak.
Ever since I have owned this truck the power steering has been pretty lame,
if your are stopped and at idle. Since it is my first bump, I did not know if that was because my pump was bad or if they "were all like that".
Then it may need replacing, have you checked at your local parts house for one?
John
The best price I could find is from Amazon, $85 delivered, so I bought that one. Just hope that this one hangs in there for a while longer until the new one arrives.

For that price, you could nearly have bought two Thompson PS pumps.
Really, 2 of them? Well I live out in the boonies so I have to consider the cost of gas while driving around in my 71 250 and I frankly have more important stuff to do than go on a auto parts store tour.

For MOST online purchases of $75.00 or more from O'Reilly's, they will deliver it to your doorstep for free. So, if you're buying several things and it's too far to town, to go to the parts store, this is an alternative that will come to you instead.

Where I live, all the O'Reilly's were formerly Kragens which were sort of the Harbor Freight of auto parts stores, so I have avoided them, but, I will check them out. Thanks for the tip.
