Power steering Pump Replacement

I was watching one of Bill Hewitt's video, an older one, about oil and other leaks on the 7.3L motors.

At the power steering pump he was saying if you replace the ford pump with a saginaw pump the pump would outlast the truck.

Is this a good way to fix this or get a new OEM pump?

Was wondering if anyone had done such a change on a truck and had pictures of the change.

The video was showing a PS pump that has the AC compressor on top so not sure the year of that model.. the engine was out of truck as well.

the PS pump info starts at 4:10 timeframe.

While I have no experience with the Saginaw pump, I can say that a new OEM pump will cost north of $170.

When I saw that price, I opted for the NAPA reman for about $55. I am now on my second NAPA reman and maybe getting ready for the third unless I can get a total refund.

I have checked pulley alignment etc to see what is causing the reman'ed pumps to leak and make a really loud noise, not the standard whine, accompanied by vibration at about 50-70 mph.

Regardless of which pump you choose, you'll need the pulley puller from Advance, they loan it if you pay the refundable, once returned, replacement cost. It is the one that has several clam shell type pullers and not the eagle claw type.

Maybe I am in the midst of a bad batch or lot number but at this point, I wish I had gone new OEM.

Seems like a lot of hassle to go to instead of just replacing your pump. The stock one works pretty well for most folks (aside from the ever- present whine; but all my Ford trucks have done that!)

Mine does not whine, as a matter of fact I have had dozens of ford trucks and never had one whine. I would like to upgrade so I would be able to brake and steer at the same time

My 02 350 wont brake and steer at the same time, but my 550 will with my foot on the brake. You may try to rebuild the pump yourself. I just bought a gates rebuild kit pn 350450. I only got the kit for when my pump fails but I will rebuild it myself since I know the pump's history.
