So I have a non ebpv pedestal I was going to clean my sensor on the front because my mileage has went down a bit. My question is is this even worth doing since the valve is not there anymore I have got mixed answers trying to look it up some say it still affects the mileage some say it won't. I cleaned it once about 10 years ago. I have an AE also how do I test it and what should it read if I do need to clean it or replace it?
You can test it while uninstalled, but still plugged in. I did that once to make sure the cleaning job worked before re-installing a bad sensor. I grabbed my air hose with a rubber tip and puffed up the sensor while connected to the truck, key on, AE running. If using absolute pressure, the max reading is about 53 PSI and the open air is about 14.7 PSI at sea level. You need to take the absolute pressure and subtract the pressure of your elevation (MAP can be a good reference for this with AE) - to get "Gauge Pressure". Gauge pressure would be the pressure you are reading on your regulated air compressor outlet.
EBP minus MAP (Key On Engine Off) equal feed pressure from the air compressor. If the EBP reads higher than the MAP with no air provided and/or higher than the feed pressure, this is a common symptom of a failed EBP sensor.
If you don't have an EBPV, don't worry about cleaning out the sensor or the tube. It doesn't matter anymore. Your fuel economy won't go down because of it. Keep the sensor plugged in to avoid codes popping up, but for all practical purposes there's not much more in the calibration that's going to make it have a huge effect.
