BARO sensor readings

2006 F250 6.0 diesel, bought by a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago, 110k kilometers, or 70k miles.

We are in Europe, and of course the Ford dealers here won't touch this truck with a ten foot pole.

Scanner (generic @ low idle) gives the following readings:

BARO: barometric pressure sensor 158 HZ

BARO: barometric pressure sensor 14.51 psi

BARO_P:barometric pressure sensor 1009 psi

BARO_V: barometric pressure sensor voltage 3.38 V

BAROFM: baro pres sens FMEM mode: OFF

BPA: barometric pressure sensor 14.51 psi

Biggest problem we have is that we have no idea what these numbers mean.

Are they good, or bad, and what are the normal ranges for these readings.

For example, I know what psi is, but I have no idea if 14.51 psi is high pressure, normal pressure, or low pressure,
and what the range should be in identifying a problem.

Truck now lives at 150m, or about 500 feet above sea level.

Can anyone help us decipher this mess ?

TIA for any help.

Think of the Baro sensor as a baseline sensor for the PCM. It's supposed to read whatever the atmospheric pressure around you is. It only changes when the atmosphere changes or you go up/down in altitude. It appears to be reading normally, but you should compare it with MAP and EBP at KOEO (key on engine off) to see if they all read within .5 psi of each other to see if they are functioning relatively correctly.

The only one of your values that really concerns me is the 3.38V which is the VRef circuit. It should be reading really close to 5V and may indicate that you have a short in that circuit it goes to several sensors on the engine).

Absolute Sea level is 14.7 psia, 500 feet is 14.4 psia. This does not account for variations (seasonal or current weather patterns). So 14.51 psi that your getting is pretty accurate. 14.51 should mathematically convert to the 1009 mb you are seeing. Not sure where the 158HZ is coming from. Someone smarter may have to answer that.

A bunch of codes have been dealt with, and the battery has been changed; hopefully that will sort out the voltage.

Will check it again soon, and see about the maybe short. Thank you.

Very helpful, thank you

No actual complaints/worries yet, just trying to understand the information that the truck gives.
We get no dealer help, and very very few people out here have any experience with American Fords.

Where in Europe are you? there are some Ford dealers that will repair, and they have a lot of experience too - they do repairs for nearby US bases. Had an HPOP replaced this year by one of them, and been running great ever since...

Slovakia is far away...

Maybe there's an International/Navistar workshop in the area though, they should be able to help with the engine

Yes it is.

No International/Navistar around.

The funniest part is he bought the Harley Edition, and he isn't a biker.
Paid extra money for nothing.

Oh well, I got some good answers from this thread, it did help.

So thank you to the forum, I'm sure I'll be back with more questions soon enough.

Thanks. again.

@ Jerky's_06 F350, i know this is an old is thread and you may have had this answered already about the 158 Hz but i have been digging into the BARO/BAP sensors for a month or so trying to figure out what is going on with mine and came across an interesting article. the BARO sensor takes the reference voltage in but instead of a varying voltage of 0v-5v out, it generates a pulse frequency that the ECM translates into its mapped elevation to determine timing and fuel. 158 Hz ~ sea level, 120 Hz ~ 15,000 ft. this article dives into with better detail if any one wants to know more.

Darren_mm, no one had answered that. Thanks for posting the article. Great info!
