First psd

I just got a 96 7.3 psd and dont know much about it and need all the help and advice I can get for it. Here is a list of problems that I need help or advice on
-oil leak, dripping between trans and rear of motor
-anytime I start it up I have to turn high idle on as it idles rough and as soon as I turn it off it runs smooth
- it has a surging type of idle where it runs smooth then rpms drop for a second then go back up
- 2nd gear grinds only on downshift
- when starting off it seems like you have to rev it up more than normal when starting off( I know how to drive a psd, started off in my grandpas 97 5 spd)

Any help addressing my problems will be much appreciated!

The oil is most likely coming from the top of the engine. In rare cases the dust cover on the trans runs through the oil pan.

For the idle unplug the ICP and see if it idle clears up. ICP is on the front of the driver side head.

For shifting issue check the pedal box bushing. If these are worn it can cause the clutch not to fully release.

That's last issue could be due to oil on the clutch.

Don't forget to check fuel pressure.
Cheap tire Guage can test it on schrader valve on Regulator.

Welcome to the 7.3 club

The last issue could also be from a bad icp sensor. You shouldn't need to give it any throttle to start off. Pull the pig tail off and check for oil in the plug. If there is oil in it I would recommend going to ford or oder in a new one from riffraff

I have a reaaallyyy lopey idle on start. Have to use high idle, or just enough throttle to get off of the off idle switch to prevent it. I recently tracked it down to my TS6 chip. pull the chip, starts perfect every time. Put the chip in, even on "stock" setting, and it rocks the whole truck.

I would guess that it has something to do with the throttle mapping....?
