Strange Idle.

Just wondering i have a 96 7.3 psd and when the engine gets warm it has a romping idle for a few seconds at idle when you come to a light, if you give it a quick throttle it goes back to normal idle and runs smooth going down the road until you push the clutch in when you come to a light again then the romp starts up again for a few seconds. am running and additive in it now that i only have about 180 miles on and it seems to be getting a little better but not completly gone. any idea's.

i run that also. it could be lots of things one being the CPS (cam position sesor) i'm had mine scanned last week and i either have a bad ground somewhere or my pcm might be bad. you might also check the oil level in the HPOP reservior.

thats right, the v/c gasket has a wire harness running through it. if you pull each of the four connectors and check them for discoloration (heat) and possibly even pull the v/c's and check each wire for a bare spot.

Check fuel just for fun but most times this type of idle issue is IPR related. It may need to be replaced or Cleaned. Here is write up to clean the IPR
