My 1973 360 came without a power steering pump attached (it sits in my garage), my question is: what mounting bracket could I use to attach a power steering pump to my 360?
I have read that the bracket from a 352 engine would do fine.
It might help to see a picture of your power steering pump. Most PS pumps have a small bracket that attaches to a larger bracket that attaches to the driver side cylinder head and water pump. Also, you'll need to confirm that you have the appropriate pulley on the crankshaft balancer. You'll need to have at least two V grooves. The first is for the alternator and water pump. The second is for the power steering pump. A third V would be for an A/C compressor.
From parts catalog, it looks as if any v8 bracket will work from 73-77 except a 302.
There are two brackets that are needed. The one you're referring to is the bracket that bolts to the pump. This is part number D1AZ-3A732-A. The OP said he has the pump so he may also already have this bracket. He'll also need bracket p/n D3TZ-3C511-A. This is the bracket that bolts to the front of the engine. The D1AZ bracket bolts to this bracket. The bracket will be the same for any 360/390 73-76 truck. Earlier brackets (352) may work, not sure.
To the OP, you say you already have the pump. Just be sure it's the correct pump. Ford used the Thompson/Ford pump for years and years. It's ID'd by the all metal housing and often called the "pencil neck" pump because of the small filler neck. In '78 Ford changed the pump to one that has a large plastic housing. The pumps don't interchange and there aren't any brackets that will bolt the plastic pump to a 360.
Here's what the setup looks like. This engine has A/C but that doesn't make any difference. The power steering brackets are the same. The only difference is, without A/C, you need to put a spacer between the bracket and cylinder head. On A/C cars, the compressor bracket acts as a spacer. The bracket that bolts to the pump has three studs that stick through slotted holes in the bracket that bolts to the engine. This allows for belt adjustment.
