Trailer Tire/Axle Question

If a person has a 36' gooseneck with triples and are running empty.
Can you get away with removing a set of tires?

I am trying to think of ways to not beat up tires when moving it around.

Thanks in advance for the help.

IMHO for what it's worth, I don't see why not. I would think it's no different than a dump truck or box truck with a lift axle.

I did find out that it has 6K axles with full brakes on all 6 wheels.

The axle total weight ratings (18K) would be determined by max trailer load weight. What is the empty weight? This would tell you if safe to run empty on 2 axles.

Ill have to ask him. The trailer is about a 500 mile round trip to go look at it.

Would it do anything funny with the brakes having one axle "disconnected" from the pavement like that? How often do you run it empty? Seems like a lot of hassle for pretty minor gain.

Guess I am not going to find out with that trailer it sold even before I could
get to the bank to get the ball rolling.

Here is the listing. Was sold local and not by Ebay.

Sure, you can run with tires off an axle. On spread axle semi trailers some will lift the axle when empty safe wear and tear. But that's an instance of flipping a switch.
