I have a 1997 F250 HD (Old body style) that has the factory tow package. The wiring was pretty hacked up when I bought it and I eliminated everything down to the factory wiring at the rear harness by the rear bumper. The factory connector for the tail lights is still there but I had to cut the old trailer wiring and 7-way plug out, it was so hacked up and shorted out.
The wires I have at the rear of the truck are: constant power (orange), trailer brake (blue), marker lights (brown), left turn (yellow), Right turn (green) and reverse lights (black). EVERYTHING works just like it should except for the left turn (yellow). I tested all the wires before wiring up the new 7-way outlet, so I've eliminated that as the problem. EVERYTHING works on the trailer plug like it should except the left turn/brake. Both left and right turn/brake lights on the truck work just fine.
Anyone have a wiring schematic for the tow package wiring? I guess the tow package wiring and the brake light wiring on the truck are fed from different places if the trucks lights all work fine?
