A buddy of mine was in need of a set of injectors. ( 30K miles on my swamps) He bought them from me for slightly less than what i paid for the new Ac's. I thought that going New AC would be better than my rebuilt 175's. Well, it didn't quite turn out that way.
After reading some posts here about there being a big difference between New and Rebuilt, i thought i would take advantage of the fact my buddy needed injectors and sold them.
Tim, I don't know what you got against a chip or tuner. I've run mine for over 100K and love the way the truck drives. If your pulling a toy hauler AC's would be the way to go. Much better in the hills around here.
I've been watching this thread and waiting for one of the seniors to correct some of the misinformation, but it hasn't happened yet...you do NOT have to reflash the PCM in order to run single shot injectors. Any chip (Hydra, TS, etc.) will handle the tuning for the singles, while leaving the default PCM program in place.
Now, once you settle in on a great tune for the singles, it's not a bad idea to have that tune flashed to your PCM, for that very, very, very rare scenario that the chip fails. Unplug the chip, and you're running with your one chosen tune for single shot injectors, because that one tune is now on your PCM. Have I gone that far? Nope. I'm running my tune for AC's on the Hydra, with the factory PCM.
Hope that clears things up a little. As for AC's vs. AD's, the AC's open up a bit more performance potential.

He stated he didn't want a tuner or chip, this is why we have been telling him, in that situation, he would have to get his PCM reflashed. It for sure is one or the other, at the very least, and ideally both, for the exact scenario you mentioned above.

Just preference, Chet. The gobs of stories of going back n fourth with the vendors dialing in the chip/tuner, cleaning the pcm tins(if not right then have to retin), figuring out which company(think PHP would get my dough)...etc, and finally, the integrity of the motor compromised. Grant it, AC's did come installed in our trucks at one time. I guess, if there's abit of ponies able to be achieved from AC's with nothing less than a flash, then now, with the multiple responses, can't see that avenue being a rough one..

I didn't decipher that from the original post the first time I read it, but I see it now.
I'd be real leery of flashing the PCM with a tune without first trying it via chip - it took a few iterations of tunes to nail mine down.
My two cents to the OP - if you're not really looking to enhance performance all around to take advantage of the extra fuel of the AC's, it seems like a bit of hassle.

The way I see it Tim, you will get some ponies as you say, and mpg also with the AC's in stock form. Plus don't you have a stick? If so it should work out even better for you. If you like PHP then have them flash your PCM. Kirklord loved his tunes from PHP. Know more egt problems pulling his 5er up the hills of Washington. God bless,
Chet
