I know this will be an easy answer for you guys but I can't seem to find the answer. I am trying to identify the module on the outer driver side of my 4R100 trans that has the wiring harness that goes to it. I have researched diagrams and schematics for the trans and see the module in several pictures but they never name the part. Reason I am asking is the wiring going to this module has some wear and the outer sheathing is coming off on several of the wires exposing the copper. I am having some weird intermittent trans issues and am just trying to troubleshoot. I need a new wiring pigtail but I do not know what to search for until I can identify the correct name for the part.
Call out number 7F293 (SW-7670)is the auto trans gear position sensor.
If you go to fordparts.com and get to the Transmission and transaxle-automatic tab on the left side and scroll on it, there will be a drop down menu that pops up, then select the sensors tab, then a bunch of small diagrams and parts will pop up. Click on one of the diagrams, under the image column and then a schematic will come up. There are the call out numbers and you can expand them and see what you need.
Most places call it the TRS (Transmission Range Sensor.) Sometimes it's called the MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor,) and the old timers call it the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch.)
That's the part I was looking for. Now to track down the wiring harness. Thank you all for your help.
I'm going to ask this but if I'm better starting a new thread than let me know. My trans won't go into overdrive. I have to press the overdrive button to turn it off, wait until I get to about 65 and then toggle overdrive back on and it will shift fine. I don't believe it's mechanical as this procedure works and the shift is smooth. All other gears shift smooth also and I have no stored trans codes or CEL. I'm not sure what specifically the trans gear position sensor does and if faulty wiring to this sensor would cause this issue or should I be looking elsewhere?
The TRS won't cause this issue. I recommend taking the plastic cover off of the steering column. Inspect the wires where they enter the shift handle. I suspect one or more of them are chafed or broken.

Mark I took the cover off and inspected the wires. There was a small chaff right where the wires enter the shift lever. I slowly peeled back the outer layer and the wires themselves were not visually damaged or chafed. I taped them up and put everything back together. The OD light on the lever had always worked. Would a bad wire still cause this issue? Is it worth buying the new lever and wiring and replace it?
