Hey everybody, I'm basically trying to find out how to wire a stock am/fm radio I got off ebay. I think it's from a dentside. I bought the truck missing the radio. I've got a speaker in each door and one in the dash (not using). The door speakers were also missing so I put a couple 6" Kenwoods in there. Wires were already in place.
The radio has five wires, 2 pink, 1 orange, 1 white, and 1 black. Written on the radio is the pinks are right speaker and the orange and the white are left speaker.
The wires from the doors go the center of the dash, where each one is split so there end up being three wires. One of the wires from each is pig tailed into one wire. So that 1 is black, the right is grey, and the left is green.
Now I thought this would be easy. Blue wire coming from ignition switch with the inline fuses goes to black power wire on radio. The black from the dash would go to the black on the radio and probably be a neutral. The grey would go to the pinks, and the green would go to the white and the orange.
Just doesn't sound right. Almost like too much power is going to the speakers and the lows are making it sound distorted. Oddly, the way is sounds best is grey and green hooked to the white, pinks together, and orange hooked to nothing. Still doesn't sound too good. I'm wondering what is going on. Not wired correctly? Too much speaker? Anyways, maybe somebody has ran into this before and can help!
Here's some pics of the setup.

According to this the two pinks are the speaker grounds, the orange is the hot for the left speaker, and the white is the hot for the right speaker, black would be power for the radio.
I bet if you dig around Fordification or SAMS or somebody, has a schematic you can download. Then you wouldn't have to guess. I doubt they'd double up wires like that, that doesn't make any sense.
I'm sure I'm not the first to do this. After hours of messing with this in 92 degree Alabama heat, I'm kind of looking for a simple "this wire goes to this wire" answer.
Randle: thanks for that, I'll try it later today.
Ted: I looked all around for that before posting, just couldn't find anything that made sense.
Brian: it very well could be a bad radio, but I'm not deciding that until at least I know it's wired correctly.
Ok it looks like this radio is a 4 speaker unit.radio wiring - The Ford Torino Page Forum - Page 1 read thru this and get a better picture. Hope this helps. scroll down a ways until you get to some wiring pics. Look at the 3rd one
