I can't find it, so I am going to guess. Doesn't it plug into the ignition lock tumbler(the thing the key fits into that you removed). It activates as soon as the key is started in the keyhole, so I would think it functions with the tumbler assembly.
Follow-up as I think it is broken and missing the other half / piece of the device. There is two cutouts in the ignition switch receptacle and this piece (the one in my hand) goes into one of the factory cutouts. I zip tied it to the outside of the receptacle to hold it in place and now it only chimes when the key is turned to the accessory position with the door open.
