1994 floor shifter problems
Hello, I have a 94 F-150, 4x4, 300 6cyl, 5 speed manual, today I went to shift to 3rd and didn't get the clutch fully depressed before I went into third, so like we all have done, it slightly ground the gear, nothing bad, them I went to fourth with no problem but when I downshifted back to third, it didnt want to go in right. now I can shift 1st and 2nd fine, 3rd, 4th and 5th its like the shifter has to be in a different position to go into, also when its in any gear, you can move the shifter in all directions more than normal, 1st, 3rd and 5th you can push it up so far it hits the dash. is there anything accessible from the under the boot inside the cab that's bad and can be replaced ? or is this something major ?
Thanks for any ideas guys

That does sound like the shifter bushing. There's a kit for it. I believe this is it:
It's all accessible from inside the cab. Just remove the boot and shifter and you'll see everything you need to see.
If you do go this route, here's two tips that will be extremely helpful for you. First, make sure the shifter is in neutral before you take it out. Then make sure you don't knock around the shift forks once the cover is off.
Also, the pin that holds the shifter on is tapered, and only fits one way. It'll be a tight fit, but not an extremely tight fit. It should push right in relatively easily. If not, it's not aligned properly. Don't get it "close enough" and rely on tightening the bolt to force it into place. It'll strip off the threads of the bolt, as the PO of my truck discovered, leaving me to deal with it now...
