Drive Shaft Issue

2003 f350 6.0 diesel, driving on the freeway at 70 mph, all instrumentation went off, the radio went off, the engine was still running fine. While pulling off on the off ramp, when the speed was about 20 mph the rear end jumped up as if the transmission was trying to go into reverse. After traveling about 4 miles at about 15 mph the rear end jumped up about 6 inches and the drive shaft pulled out of the spline and drove itself into the pavement. Does anyone know why this happened. I have put two new batteries and an alternator in the truck and it has been fine every since, but I am still concerned it may happen again. The truck has a 6 inch lift on it.

Sounds like 2 problems, the cluster going out with the radio I just had with an 04. It started here and there then got to be 6x a day. Ended up being a bad cluster. I think its 02-04 trucks RAP is in the cluster and would drop out and come back like you shut the key off and on.

I agree two problems.
Pull the cover on the rear diff and see what the oil looks like coming out
and if you get any chunks. Chunks are a really bad thing.

For the cluster try Circuit Board Medics They are a FET sponsor
and can be found in the vendor directory.
But here is the link for you.

We have seen the cluster dropping along with the radio be due to a faulty voltage regulator in the alternator. We'd love to bring in your cluster to check it but this failure may have been the alternator if you don't see the issues again. Give it a few weeks and see what you get.

Here's a link to our repair page if the cluster and radio continue to drop out with the new alterator:
