Won't work unless you do install the molding first.
I worked at a Ford dealership, where the body shop tried to install the molding afterwards. Pieces flew off and they had to get new molding for the customer.
I never done one of our trucks with the chrome trim , but on 1960s Porsche I used Blue Tape to help hold the trim in rubber while pulling rope/windshield into place.
Place the rubber on the glass, the molding in the rubber. Rap a piece if 1/4" rope like sash cord starting at center bottom all the way around and ending same. Place the windshield in the truck and starting pulling the rope while making sure it is snuggly in place working around to the top. When the rope is out the windshield should be installed.
I think it was well worth the $75.00 that I paid the glass company to install mine several years ago.
