Hello all,
I have a 96 F-350 Supercab 7.3.The motor has been pulled down, bored 30 over, as well as a transmission rebuild both having about 14,000 miles on them now. The transmission was built by Jo's Transmission in Rockford Illinois. It will shift first, second, and when it goes to shift 3rd, its like the torque converter unlocks and it goes into a free rev. If I slow down more into second gear's range the torque converter will lock back up and I can maintain speed. Generally, if pull over, put the truck in park, let it idle for a second, and take off it will begin to shift normally and not do it again. Any ideas?
The torque converter isn't going to be locked on the 2-3 shift. And unlocking the torque converter won't cause it to free rev. Something is wrong inside the transmission. Take it back to the trans rebuilder.
