I'm looking to install this OEM in bed trailer connector but there are no instructions or templates. Does anyone have a photo of what the hole looks like? Of course it's not the standard 2" round hole.
I installed this in my truck and just drilled a round hole and then riveted the plug
So, did you remove the riser piece and just mount the plug? On my last truck, I just bought a pollack plug and mounted it in a round hole, but this time I got the OEM one and it has these tabs sticking out of the back.
I had the same problem with it. The OEM installation must cut an odd shaped hole. I ended up removing the plug from the plastic standoff and making my own.
Thanks for the link Ginther. I'll probably end up mounting it without the standoff piece like you did.
You really got a deal on that junkyard find.
Glad I could help.
I try to save a few bucks on recycling good parts off wrecked vehicles when I can.
I removed the tailgate handle (stripper pole) and got a regular metal panel for the tailgate for something like $20 from the same truck. Just have to get it sprayed with bed liner like the rest of the bed now.

Why not just drill a round hole and cut the tabs off ?
Why not just drill a round hole and cut the tabs off ?
I found a thread where a guy did that, and I considered it. In the end I decided to mount it the same place that I did on my 2012, which is lower and near the wheel well and doesn't require the standoff. This location works well for me. I feel like the wheel well helps protect it and the wire doesn't hang up on my cooler (near the tai gait) when turning.
But.. I cut the tabs off on the large mounting plate, and drilled a round hole. I also used S/S Nut & Bolt for mounting it. Further, I mounted it higher and closer to the tailgate, so that I don't have to climb into the bed to hook/unhook it. (The pull switch is for the Bed lights I added)
The funky cut out picture is the factory cut out I found on the web when I was doing mine.
P.S. You need to use the large plate if you are mounting it high, as the pig tail wires won't clear the inside bed.
