Hi guys. Have a job 2 lariat 08. Has 96,000 miles. Has been tuned for about 10,000 miles. Runs like a million bucks. But I have been having some rev slams. Always happens the same way. Feels like it happens when tranny switches from 5th to 3rd gear, such as exiting the highway. I know I'm up for a tranny fluid, and filter change. Could that be the issue, or do you guys think it's time for A new clutch? I'm running the Spartan 210 tune.
I drive her pretty easy, I can catch it before it happens most times. I just wait for the tranny to engage then it's fine.
Have you called Spartan or updated the tuner? It is a known issue with the Spartan tuning, last I heard they released an update that helps a lot.
Their trans tuning is very very stiff anyway, in most cases the only way to smooth things out completely is traction bars. These trucks have really bad axle wrap and it makes harsh shifts even worse. But the 3-5 flare is a very common issue and trac bars alone aren't going to fix it. In many cases people have swapped the solenoid out, there are some great aftermarket options that pretty much eliminate the flare. That still means dropping the pan though.
Thanks man. I have not contacted Spartan, but I will. They seem to be very good with customer service. As far as dropping the pan on the transmission. It might be one of the few things on this truck that's easy to do, changing the oil's not too bad either. Ha ha
Thanks guys. Seems like Im starting to get it narrowed down. Def seems like a fluid issue might be the problem. Spartan told me to add a half quart over full. So I will do that for now. Within the next 5,000 miles or so, I will change the trans fluid, filter, and add a little more trans fluid, and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the knowledge gents

Are you running the 210 tow tune or the 210 performance tune? Late lock or early lock on the converter??
Have you done the Spartan specific tcm re-learn after to tuned it.??
Following there initial procedure will help a-lot. The tcm will adaptive learn but with the spartan tuning it takes much longer then even just the factory tuning. If you haven't done this i would switch tunes and come back to the spartan 210.
