Another Grill color question......

I was working on the grill for my '50 when i noticed something that prompts a question.

The "front" is supposed to be Argent, I got that. But as I worked on the backside it looks like there are traces of black paint.

Was the backside, or maybe whole thing, sprayed black before the Argent was applied to the front?

That seems like a lot of effort on an assembly line, but it would affect the silver color having a dark base.

Probably the cheap primer they used on the line.
